Land Rover uses the stupid lug nuts covered by a thin aluminum skin for...reasons. The lug nut underneath is a standard 21mm, but the top part makes it 22mm...ish...when new. After 100k miles and countless tire shops and idiot dealers, they’re bulging to 23mm...ish. 22 wont go over the nut, 24 is too big and just deforms the aluminum.
Do they sell 23mm sockets at my local HD/Lowe’s? No, they do not. All of the manufacturers involved in this process are assholes.

It’s almost intentionally designed to inconvenience owners...

Yuuup, I lost a handful of sockets to this the last time I rotated the tires on my Volvo. Still need to get a torch to try to separate them from the nuts...

I’ d blame ford.

You could try a 7/8" socket. I mean, you could. I can’t say it’s the right thing to do, but you could.
I’ll dare to ask the seemingly obvious question. Are the aluminum covers removable?
Side note: The only thing that would fit properly in some caliper guide pins on my BMW was a 3/1 6" A llen key. They’re supposed to be 6mm, but those don’t fit.

The Brits can't even make a reliable nut.

Jeep does the same thing. I ended up having to chisel off one of the caps. I replaced mine with some solid units off Amazon.

nah, the Ford ones have the decorative cap crimped on air-tight; they don’t “swell” so much as they have the cap deformed by being hammered with loose-fitting impact sockets.
that one up there looks like the style of cap Chrysler used in the ‘80s which did let salt water seep in and cause it to actually swell.

Autozone or the like may “rent” a 23mm socket. If such a thing exists.

Oh wow, I didn’t realize that was a thing. Thanks!

They’re not supposed to be removable. I pryed the cover off of one because I got desperate. It just took...a long time.

ford’s certainly swelled. I want to say there was a class action law suit over them. I had them and had to replace them they sucked.

Pretty much the only reason I use my imperial tools are for fitting “in-between” sizes onto corroded metric fasteners.
Side note: The only thing that would fit properly in some caliper guide pins on my BMW was a 3/16" Allen key. They’re supposed to be 6mm, but those don’t fit.
My Mazdspeed6 had nuts on the intercooler support bracket that were too big for 12 mm and super sloppy in my 13 mm wrench (to the point I was afraid I’d
round them over). But a 1/2" worked pretty great :)
